And As Far As Your New Poll Goes . . .

. . . I actually have two of them.

I know there’s been a lot of Stephen King talk on this site lately, but you’re going to have to bear with me for one more week, SK haters, because my latest questions have to do with adaptations. Specifically, King’s.

And then . . .

Believe it or not, keeping these lists at ten nominees each was kind of hard. I tried to have a healthy mix of my own personal preferences alongside common perception, but I probably left off at least a few people’s favorites or least favorites. Sorry about that. It couldn’t be helped. You may also have noticed a few doubles on these lists. I doubt it will happen, but I’d personally be very amused if The Shining¬†managed to win for both.

Let’s vote and find out.

I wished I could’ve voted for Carrie in the ‘Worst’ category. Goddamn I hated that one. I saw the movie before I read the book, and even still.

  2. Brandon says:

People voting The Shining as the best adaption are voting on name alone and because, well, Kubrick.

The REAL choice here is Shawshank. That movie is so close to perfect. I’m not sure how they pulled it off, but damn.

Conversely, “Dreamcatcher” is horrible and all copies should be destroyed. For the kids.

    • Jim King says:

I did love Shawshank, and I agree it’s near to perfect. One thing that bothered me – which I didn’t actually notice, someone pointed it out to me – was that weird water pressure in the pipe he escapes in.

Of course the novella is still better, but only marginally.

I’d like to have one of those “His Judgment Cometh and That Right Soon” things on my wall.

      • I think The Shawshank Redemption might be the closest book adaptation that I’ve ever seen. They change a couple of things, but not a lot, and you could understand why they changed what they did.

  3. Teacups says:

I kind of wish Pet Semetary had made it to the “Worst,” poll. I know it’s supposed to be a good movie and all, so I understand why it didn’t, but I just can’t take a homicidal zombiefied two-year-old seriously.

Just to offset the previous commenters – I voted for Carrie, but my second choice would’ve been The Shining.
