Twelve Awesome Star Wars Videos (None of Which Were Made By Me).

It’s been at least two months since I had an entry solely devoted to Star Wars. I figured I was about due. So, I made a list. Because I have a deeply ingrained neurotic need to impose control on a chaotic world. Or because I like lists. Whichever sounds more likely.

12 Awesome Star Wars Videos . . . None of Which Were Made By Me

1. Star Wars: Retold (By Someone Who Hasn’t Seen It)

I watched about eighty gazillion Star Wars fan videos at Comic Con in 2010, and this was my favorite of the bunch. (Also, one of the only good ones. It’s ridiculous how many awful fan vids there are out there.) I love how this girl recounts things that completely don’t happen. I mean, I figure she’s just being silly by the end of it with Han and Luke kissing, but . . . er . . . you saw Lando die? More importantly, I want to go to the Bar Planet!

2. Oh To Be (Darth Vader)

Ryan Cartwright (Alphas) sings about what it would be like to be Hayden Christensen. I love that he talks in an American accent but sings in an English one. Favorite line? “But that’s bullshit. That’s Jar Jar Binks bullshit.”

3. Star Wars Impressions, Part I

They aren’t all pitch perfect (I’m not terribly impressed by his Chewbacca) but this is a pretty fun video of one guy doing a ton of various Star Wars impressions. (Part II is here.) I particularly like his transition from Alec Guinness Obi-Wan to Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan.

4. RvD2: Ryan vs Dorkman 2

Another one of the good videos I saw at Comic Con. And considering this is a fan made vid, it’s a pretty epically awesome lightsaber battle. I especially love the very end.

5. The Force: Volkswagen Commercial

Everyone’s favorite commercial from the 2011 Superbowl. (Or if it wasn’t, you at least liked it better than that awful one with Roseanne Barr and Richard Lewis, right?) I think my favorite shot is the kid stalking after the dog with his arms up in the air.

6. How It Should Have Ended: The Return of the Jedi

These guys did the whole trilogy—New Hope is here and Empire is here—but this one is definitely my favorite. Possibly because of the younglings. Or possibly because Return of the Jedi had so many problems with it. Either way, it’s awesome.

7. Existential Star Wars (In French)

I suppose philosophy nerds are going to enjoy this the most, but I couldn’t help but crack up at all the dramatic “I die!” and “Despair!” lines. Plus: “Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi. I exist, and I find it nauseating.” Love.

8. Star Wars (John Williams is the Man) A Capella Tribute

This has been up for years, but I only just saw it last night, and I cracked up. A lot. “You must use force. (Repeat ad nauseam.)” Hee.

9. Blue Milk Commercial

Sadly, I had trouble embedding this one, so just go to the link here. It’s a pretty cute little video. Young Princess Leia was anti-Empire from a very young age. This includes beverage selection, apparently.

10. Cello Wars (Star Wars Parody) Lightsaber Duel

Okay, so this one’s pretty silly. But you just don’t see enough lightsaber cello duels. Although, honestly, my favorite part is probably the end credits.

11. The Fastest and Funniest Lego Star Wars Story Ever Told

This is another pretty funny reenactment of the Star Wars trilogy. I especially like “What up, son?” and “Nice to meet you”—LIGHTNING!

12. Finally . . . Star Wars Uncut: Director’s Cut

Okay, I feel a little weird recommending this one because, well, I haven’t really seen all of it yet. Okay, I haven’t even seen most of it yet. But a two hour fan-made compilation-and-recreation of Star Wars sounds cool . . . I just don’t feel like watching all of it right now. Besides, watching the beginning of this vid with people recreating the opening scene . . . well, it made me realize how desperately I want to do it myself, only as a paintball or laser tag battle. Wouldn’t that be fun? You have your paintball and/or laser tag game like normal, only half of your friends get dressed up as Storm Troopers and half of your friends get dressed up as Rebels.

It’s genius, I tell you. There are so many action movie scenes you could reenact. That would be awesome.

I’d pay a lot of money for that.
