Coming Soon-Ish: Avengers, Tim Burton, and Morticians Who Murder Shirley Maclaine . . .

The Avengers

This is the most recent trailer for The Avengers, and I gotta tell you, it looks awesome. I’m trying not to get my hopes up or anything, but if they really pull off this movie . . . man, I’m going to be so impressed. (If you’d like to see what The Avengers would look like as a silent film, go here. It’s pretty funny.)

Bernie

I am honestly not sure what to make of this trailer, but I’m kind of intrigued, regardless. Jolly mortician Jack Black befriends and then murders Ouiser Boudreaux. I’d rather see this than The Big Year, anyway.

Frankenweenie

This looks kind of cute—although potentially depressing. I mean, I know it’s Disney, but really. How many Frankenstein stories out there end well? And while I hate to say this, I’m actually more interested in this because Johnny Depp isn’t it. Isn’t that kind of horrible? I just feel like I’m ready for him and Tim Burton to spend some time apart.

Touchback

Oh, yuck. It’s been, what, a little over a year since the last big inspirational football movie, so they figured America was due for another one, only this time with . . . time travel? Kurt Russell, why do you wound me this way? I thought you had left your Touching Sports Drama period of filmography behind you with Miracle and Dreamer.

And finally . . . The Moth Diaries

Not entirely sure what to make of this one, either. I must have been one of the only people in the world who wasn’t a big fan of American Psycho, but I’d like to see more films by women directors, and this, at the very least, looks interesting. Of course, stories about jealousy and mistrust and shattering friendships are not usually high on my to-watch list, but I do have to give points for Creepy Girl singing something that sounds very much like the song from my favorite morbid fairy tale, “The Juniper Tree”.
