Today is a good day, people.
My short story, “This Villain You Must Create,” is up at Lightspeed. If you like superheroes, dark comedies, or . . . well . . . me, you can read it here for free. Also feel free to check out all the other awesome work that’s in the July issue, including my friend Laura’s fantasy story, “Ushakiran.”
I’ve been awake since 4:30 yesterday afternoon and probably won’t sleep until around 10:00pm tonight, but I’m pretty sure my happy buzz will get me through the day.
Your story is one of my favorites of the year. Loved it!
Aw! Thanks! You have made my already pretty awesome morning even more awesome. 🙂
Excellent! Very inspiring, actually made me thinking of trying writing something super-heroic….The ending was good, I was expecting something else and was moved when it didn’t happened. A sign that your writing was good enough to touch my heart!
Thanks! I really appreciate that. Good luck write the super-heroic. 🙂
I look forward to seeing more and more of these posts 😀
Maybe if I continue to sell stories, these posts will become more dignified, like, by the way, I have Story X up in Magazine Y, instead of It’s Here! EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!
Congrats. I enjoyed your story. It was both funny and clever.
Also, you look a bit like Marilyn Manson in that picture that they used.
Thanks! And heh. I must say, I’ve never been compared to Marilyn Manson before. But I have been unfavorably compared to worse people, so I’ll take it. 🙂
The LightSpeed publication of “This Villian You Must Create” led me here.
… holy hot snapping ducknuts roasting on a chargrilled bed of STUNNING briquettes, that was GOOD.
Speaking as a long-time reader of comics disappointed by repeated mainstream reboots of characters he’d come to know and love, I would Click Here To KNOW MORE.
(Frankly, I wonder what would happen if you were illegally let loose on the “intellectual properties” of the abovementioned.)
Who shall be Granite’s next nemesis? Will Lady Obsidian also take up residence in his dreams with Mr Malevolence? Will this growing string of nocturnal nemeses finally take a toll on his shattered sleepdrawn nights? What, exactly, happened to Huracán? What happens when the next supervillain (or worse, a superhero; or worse, Captain Justice!) discovers the ever-growing Box under the bed?
I hope you realise your buzz should fire up again pretty much every morning for the next few weeks.
Thank you so much! I’ll be honest — I’d never really given much thought to writing a sequel before, but it’s nice to know there’s interest, so maybe at some point I will. I might actually be a little more interested in writing a prequel — which even makes ME think boo, hiss — but I do know a little about what happened to Huracán, and I have some interest in the government experiment that turned him and Lady Obsidian into super-powered humans.
Thanks again for finding your way here and leaving such a nice comment to brighten my morning. Especially before I have to get on a plane. I appreciate all the cheer I can get. 🙂
Late congratulations, Carlie! I enjoyed your story a great deal, especially the end. That kind of clever, funny/disturbing meta-y-ness really appeals to me.
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m still kind of ridiculously excited to have a story in Lightspeed. All in all, this is turning out to be a pretty awesome summer for me. 🙂
