Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
Well, I’ve been waiting for this movie for approximately, oh, ten years. Now that it’s here . . . well, it’s interesting. I’m sure I’ll see it, and I’m obviously excited about the addition of Joseph Gordon-Levitt . . . but I feel a little like it’s just been too long since the last one. Like when Sin City came to the big screen in 2005, it was wildly different and exciting and fun, but I have this horrible feeling that the sequel is just going to be a “yeah, okay” moment, and I want it to be awesome. Still, who knows? Maybe it will do something I don’t suspect.
The Quiet Ones
I wish I could be interested in this . . . some of the images are creepy enough . . . but despite my inclination towards Jared Harris and his lovely voice, this looks to be a collection of a ton of horror tropes that I don’t particularly care for. Possession/exorcism plot, based on a true story, some shaky cam stuff, etc. Unless I see an amazing trailer, my interest remains low. Sorry, Finnick.
The Grand Budapest Hotel
This movie is already out, I think, at least in a few theaters, but I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a red-band trailer for a Wes Anderson film before, so I had to check it out. (By the way, that probably makes it NSFW, mostly for a handful of swears.) It’s actually been a long time since I’ve watched something by Anderson — I still haven’t gotten around to seeing Moonrise Kingdom yet, despite its near universal praise — but I’m interested this. It looks kind of exactly like the humor I go for. I should see if it’s playing anywhere near by.
And finally . . . Godzilla
Okay, I know I’m late to the party, but I finally watched the most recent trailer for Godzilla, and it looks decent. I don’t know. I don’t think I’m overwhelmed by this trailer the way a lot of the Internet seemed to be, but it has a good cast and it looks fun, and anyway, it kind of has to be better than the 1998 movie, right? (Here’s what’s funny: I’ve seen that movie, I know I have, and I don’t remember a godamned thing about it. It’s like my brain wiped it from existence to protect me. I’ve been feeling like maybe I should give it a second chance, but only as a drinking game, so — hopefully — I’ll just forget it all over again.)
